X-Ray is a keycap set that features a clear-on-white, low-contrast design, paying tribute to transparent tech peripherals. Inspired by these devices, these translucent keycaps highlight the internal structures and construction properties that define them.

From certain perspectives, these keycaps almost appear blank. Yet, when any directional light source shines on them, it casts shadows, revealing the depth of the legends.

Designed by modmusings
Manufactured by KBDfans
Made in China
Material: ABS Plastic
Color: Clear ABS with White (WS1) legends

Profile: Cylindrical
Sculpt: 1 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 4
Legends: Doubleshot
Modifier Style: Icon-Only
Switch Compatibility: MX-style

These keycaps are semi-transparent; therefore, colors may be highly sensitive to lighting and the angle of view.

The keycap base is opaque and is not intended to be used with per key rgb shine through lighting.

The inner layer for the actual set would potentially have visible holes. These holes are not defects but manufacturing constraints from the double-shot injection molding process. To minimize the appearance of these holes, the X-ray keycaps are painted with Tamiya Acrylic Paint.

The images shown are used for illustrative purposes only. While we aim to accurately estimate and reproduce colors, there may be minor variations in the color of the actual product because of the nature of dyes, environmental lighting, and differences in display output due to lighting and digital photography and color settings and capabilities of monitors.

Bauer Lite: X-Ray Edition

Designing a special edition Bauer Lite for the X-Ray collection was a no-brainer. The qualities of injection molded plastic make it the perfect medium to produce a clear-on-white design that complements the X-Ray keycaps flawlessly.

X-Ray Artisan

Designed by maxvoltar in collaboration with the set, the X-Ray artisan pushes the limits on the transparent theme with a modular design.

The bottom is made out of machined aluminum with a white powder coating and features some infill details to add a subtle pop of color. The top is delicately machined polycarbonate, held in place with an M1.6 screw. The result is an artisan you've never seen before, a perfect match for the X-Ray keycaps.

Artisan Specs

  • Manufacturer: Salvun
  • Materials: Aluminum, Polycarbonate
  • Profile: Cherry Profile, R1
  • Compatibility: MX-style switches

“The design for X-Ray Collection comes from a combination of three things: the nostalgia (and resurgence) of the transparent tech trend from my childhood, my current obsession with translucent polycarbonate keyboards, and my appreciation for minimal design aesthetics.”

Looks great on my Baldr65!

These keycaps look like the renders, were packaged nicely and are holding up well so far!

Cool concept, not the best execution

While the packaging was a little more elevated than most sets I've purchased, overall there were just a few inconsistencies that made this set kind of dissapointing.

Unless I received a more defective product, a lot of my 1U keycaps fit extremely tight. I can't remove them or mount them without putting so much extra force into it. It got to a point where it chipped off part of my stem for my switch when prying off the diamond shaped 1U.

I looked at other reviews and some people had looser keycaps, so I'm not sure if it's just a production issue or not.

Overall, the keycaps look good and feel good. Have been using them for the past few weeks, but just a bit dissapointed in the fitting.

Nostalgia! Nostalgia! Nostalgia

These brought me right back to the year 1999 at the LA Computer Expo. All of the acrylic pc cases with cathode lighting kits, and those futuristic clear acrylic speakers and woofer. IYKYK. Simply amazing.

Lovely set! Fit is a little loose compared to gmk.

This pbtfans x-ray set is stunning on my green derivative by jjwkb. Caps mounted on jwk hades switches feel a little lose compared to the fit from a gmk botanical set, but no issues so far after regular use for a few weeks.
